A Glimpse from the Past
El Kanah Marysville has been a well-known institution in Victoria for more than 30 years. It is a Christian charitable organisation that had its beginnings in 1974 under the leadership of Graeme and Julia Cann and his team from Eastleigh Gospel Chapel. The facilities were lost in the fire that destroyed most of Marysville, claimed 37 lives in the area and approximately 400 homes, on Black Saturday, February 7, 2009.
After the fires, a small community was established under the leadership of Vera and Peter Gill, past and present Directors of El Kanah. Work commenced to remove dead and fire damaged trees, rebuild the Chapel, maintain and redevelop the grounds and garden, and to assist people within Marysville and surrounds. Members of the El Kanah community have a passion to share God’s love with many who are still very much suffering from the effects of the horrendous bushfire.
El Kanah has engaged architectural firm Elevation Architecture and project managers Sinclair Brook to develop plans and prepare for reconstruction and SB3 to undertake building works.
There is much excitement in the area as El Kanah emerges from the ashes, and much to do. Your help would be greatly valued and appreciated.
